Writing for the Web Tips

Writing for the Web

The Web is inherently  different from any other medium , in terms of getting your message across, especially print.  Basically, when you read online, you are gathering information from a medium that is non-linear , two-dimensional , interactive , and involves multimedia .

To write good Web content, you need to learn some new rules (that probably contradict what you've been taught about writing in the past).  The new rules are easily summarized:

  • Simple is good.  No more padding, complex sentence structures, fancy vocabulary.
  • Be brief and clear.
  • Get rid of pompous, stuffy language.
  • Eliminate unnecessary verbiage.

The following guidelines will help you adjust to and understand the rules for writing for the Web.
