The Saint Francis Path of the PassionAtOur Lady of Victory Catholic SchoolTyrone, GaA special project called " The St. Francis Path of Passion" was established on the property in the fall of 2003. The idea for the project came about while the class of 2005 was studying the life of St. Francis of Assisi. St. Francis is known for his devotion to the life of Christ and he was the first person in history to construct two distinctive kinds of meditative aids: the tradition of the Nativity Scene and the formation of the Stations of the Cross. The Stations of the Cross is a devotion prayed by people of many faiths, whereby, one meditates on the steps of Christ's Holy Passion by reflecting on images, carvings and/or paintings of the road to Calvary and literally walking along the path from one Station to another. The students in this class of 2005 have a great zest for life and one of their favorite places on campus is a wooded area behind the school that is also home to a tremendous granite rock formation where they frequently go to enjoy its natural beauty. Students approached their religion teacher about the possibility of creating their own version of the Stations of the Cross in the wooded area of the rock formation. Indeed, the area already had a small statue of St. Francis at the entrance to the woods. |
