August and September This month in Kindergarten…
Phonics-We will be finishing up the vowel review, and we will be working on consonant-vowel blends with T, L, B, N, M and H. Please review these with your child at home!
Reading-We will be reading different trade books about farms and animals this month during reading. We will be responding to questions in our journals, acting out stories and discussing them each day.
Math-We are learning the concept of cents, counting money, learning ordinal numbers (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.), and also working on forming our numerals correctly. We will begin learning time to the hour towards the end of the month.
Science-We will be discussing the needs of animals and how they meet those needs and learning the differences between animals and plants. Later in the month we will also be looking at how animals grow and discuss life cycles.
Social Studies-We are still discussing families this month in social studies. We will practice writing and memorizing our addresses and phone numbers. We will also be graphing different family sizes, looking at where different families around the country might live, and discussing ways we can be helpful at home. Please practice writing and memorizing home phone number and address at home.
Religion-We will begin our unit on Noah’s Ark. Look for different religion booklets that will be sent home in your child’s folder! Happy Birthday!!! Jessica-August 20th Mason-September 29th

MORE MEMOS!!! Classroom Rules
Behavior Plan Our students' behavior will be monitored on a daily basis using a traffic light symbol. Each student will start every day on the green light (Great). Should a child not follow the classroom rules after reminders, he/she will be asked to move his/her personal clip from green to yellow (Warning). If the student continues to break the rules, he/she will proceed to the color red (Stop). A daily form will be sent home in the student's folder indicating the color your child ended the school day on. If a child ends the day with a yellow or red color, there will be an attached blue form detailing the behavior concern(s) for the day. Please be sure to look for the daily form, and praise your child for any good behavior demonstrated or discuss any problems your child may have following the classroom rules. Good behavior will be rewarded in the classroom on a regular basis. This discipline plan will be integrated with the discipline plan contained in the Family Handbook. Lunch Parents are welcome to come and visit with their child during the Kindergarten lunch period for special events (birthday, grandparents visiting, etc...). Be sure to stop at the front window to sign in before proceeding to the cafeteria. Students must either bring a daily lunch with them or have purchased a lunch from the cafeteria ahead of time. Please ensure that arrangements for lunch have been made on a daily basis. A missing or unplanned lunch can be very disturbing to our Kindergarten students. A-La-Carte Cards An A-La-Carte card can be purchased for $20.00 and can be used to purchase milk, juice, and ice cream. The teacher's aide will maintain the cards and will notify parents via the daily form when a card has been used up. Kindergarten students will be allowed to purchase milk/juice at lunch daily and ice cream on Fridays only. Please send A-la Carte order form in your child’s daily folder. DO NOT SEND ANY MONEY/CHECKS-YOUR STUDENT ACCOUNT WILL BE INVOICED. |
