8th grade Joint Project – Science and Computer

Magnetism and Electricity – Due Thursday, April 24th

Introduction:

You have been assigned a topic in science to research.  You will either work independently (advanced class) or in a group (general class.)

• You will create a web site in HTML to teach your topic to the class.

Why HTML?

HTML (hypertext markup language) is the language of web pages.  It is also a cross platform language (which means that it can be used on all operating systems) that has shared storage.

Normally HTML can be viewed from school or at home.  In our case, your pages will be viewable at school only.

Advantages to using HTML: To create HTML, you will use either Wordpad or Notepad.  Both of these come free with our operating system. All other editors convert their code to HTML, so it makes sense that you understand the basics of HTML.

Disadvantages of using HTML: HTML is time consuming since tags must be written from scratch.

What to include in your web page:

Your web site should include:

• Subject of your web page, including purpose
• Table of Contents of your web site
• Eye Catching graphic that is relevant to your subject
• Links to other pages in your web site

Note:

The science project outline will be passed out in science class.  In addition, it will be available online on Mrs. Thomas’ web page.

The computer project outline will be passed out in computer class.  In addition, it will be available online on Mrs. Roberts’ web page
