6th Grade Spring Project 2008

You may choose one of the following topics for your spring project.
Canada:
- French Canada, Quebec
- The Prairie Provinces – Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba
- British Columbia
- The Atlantic Provinces – Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and New Brunswick.
- The Northern Territories – Yukon, Northwest Territory, and Nunavut.
These topics must meet the following criteria:
- Must have a detailed map of your area in Canada on your poster or power point, which should include the following:
- Major cities
- Historical or Area Attractions
- 3 pictures of interest of your area.
- A 2-page report on the history of your area. Typed and doubled spaced. It should include early explorers, famous historical people, etc.
- A 2-page report on the culture of the area. This may include music, dance, languages spoken, food, sports, and recreational activities.
- A map that relates to your topic.
- A poster or power point must be prepared for this project.
- You must do an oral presentation of 2 to 3 minutes.

1. The Gold Rush
Latin America:
- Mexico
- The Mexican Revolution and Independence
- The history of the Panama Canal
- Ancient Civilizations of Latin America: Aztecs, Mayan, and Incas.
5. Devils Island and French Guiana

These topics must meet the following criteria:
- At least a four page report, double spaced and using a size 12 font, Times New Roman.
- Your project should cover the following areas:
- Why is it important?
- Who was involved with the event or place?
- What was the impact of the event on society and history?
- When did it occur and what were the time element s involved with the event or place?
- A map that relates to your topic illustrated on your poster or power point.
- Must cite at least 3 sources.
- A poster must be prepared or a power point presentation on your topic.
- You must do an oral presentation of 2 to 3 minutes.
Take a trip to the following places:
- Train rides through Canada
- Using Canada your way.com select one of the two cross-country train holidays.
Coast-to-Coast Rail Express (Summer)
Discover Canada By Rail.
- Cruise through the Panama Canal
- Select a Cruise Line such as Royal Caribbean and select a minimum of a 14-day trip through the Panama Canal. (Must have several ports of call to research)
- Cruise to Antarctica
- Select a Cruise Line that is going to Antarctica and select a minimum of a 14-day trip. (Must have several ports of call or areas of interest)
These topics must meet the following criteria:
- A detailed map of your trip itinerary, which should include such things as major cities, countries, and area attractions.
- A four-page report that explains the various places you visited and their importance to their country and or the world.
- This can also include the various traditions of that area, music, art, architecture, and natural wonders.
- Your report should contain what the cost of this kind of trip would cost to take. Give the high and the low range.
Project will be assigned March 14, 2008.
Written papers are due Friday, April 18, 2008
Presentations will begin on Monday, April 21, 2008
