8th Grade State Project

You must complete the following things on your poster.

2. Completing the Poster:

              You will need to references such as an encyclopedia, atlas, almanac as well as internet sources to complete the information needed for your poster.  You should use colored pencils, markers, and newspaper clippings to make your poster as attractive as possible.  Remember neatness counts as well as spelling! Follow these directions to complete your poster.

  1. Label the top of your poster with the name of your State.
  2. Below the name of the state put the State motto.
  3. Draw a compass rose and label the cardinal directions as well as the intermediate directions. You may use abbreviations.
  4.  Draw or use some form of illustration to show the state’s natural resources and where they are located.
  5.  Draw or illustrate a landmark unique to your state.

You should a pencil when you begin to trace or outline and than go back over it with a dark pen or marker.

 

  1.  Draw or trace an accurate outline of your state. It should take up about half of the poster board.
  2.  Draw or trace any major rivers or lakes in the state outline and color them blue.
  3.  Draw a star with a dark circle around it to indicate the state capital and label its     name.
  4. Draw a star for five other major cities in your state and label them.
  5. Make a map key and label the major landforms in your state using the map key. This would include mountains, deserts, lakes, etc. and label them.
  6. Label the highest and lowest elevation points in your state using your key.
  7. Draw the major interstates that go through your state.
  8. Label and major airports in your state using your map key.
  9. Complete the history timeline using the historical facts you researched on your state.
  10. Draw or illustrate the state flag.
