Philosophy of Music in the Archdiocese of Atlanta:

“We believe that music illuminates God’s divine presence and binds the assembly, as one voice, in celebration.  Music leads us to an enhanced appreciation for the inherent beauty of the human experience.  In addition, music education in the formative years develops a foundation for organization, discipline, and sense of accomplishment in personal and group performance.  This is achieved by using a multi-sensory approach to instruction.”

Curriculum:  Music is experienced through a wide variety of activities including singing, playing instruments, pantomime, listening activities, and dance.

Pre-K through 4th Grade:  The primary focus with this age group is to experience and develop an appreciation for music through a variety of songs, dances, games, and stories.  We will be experimenting with the range of sounds we can create with our voices, rhythm instruments, and body percussion.  After Christmas, the 4th grade will begin their instruction on the recorder.  All music and instruction packets will be provided.  We have recorders available at the school, however it can be very beneficial for the students to have their own instrument to practice with at home. They usually cost between $4.00 and $8.00 and can be purchased at Attina’s, Jackson’s Music, and the Music and Arts Center in Peachtree City.

5th through 8th Grade:  We continue to rotate our Middle Division classes on the “wheel.”  Rehearsal tapes of the Grandparents Day and Christmas Pageant music will be provided to the homeroom and religion teachers.  Special rehearsals will be scheduled during school to rehearse for these two very special performances.  During their scheduled time in the wheel, the Middle Division classes will continue with the Music Ace technology software and the new Prodikeys music reading and composition software.

Choir:  The Choir is open to all 3rd and 4th graders interested in serving the Lord through the music ministry.  We take our responsibilities very seriously.  We have a musically strong group this year and we are looking forward to serving in our 1st Mass.  We hope to see you there!

I am looking forward to an exciting and fun filled year.  Our students have all become confident in their abilities and are eager to share their talents.

If you have any questions or if I can be of any assistance, please feel free to contact me.
